The Birth of Kokorobi Matcha
The name Kokorobi is inspired by two Japanese words: kokoro (こころ)— “heart, mind, and soul” — and bi (び)— “beauty.” For us, it means the beauty that’s felt within the heart, mind, and soul — a beauty that unfolds when matcha is prepared with care, inviting stillness and expressing intentional living. Kokorobi was born from quiet moments with a cup of matcha — moments of reflection and calm that remind us to slow down and return to the present. It is a celebration of simplicity and imperfection, and of finding harmony between heart, mind, and soul.

OUR STORY 🙂
Kokorobi was born from a quiet craving—for something deeper, slower, and more intentional.
It started in visiting cafes, where I looked for a matcha experience that felt authentic—something that captured the same Japanese vibe I experienced when I am visiting in Japan. While many drinks carried the color of matcha, they lacked the Japanese spirit behind it. That search led me on a journey—one that eventually led me to its origin – Kyoto, Japan.
While traveling through Japan, I visited traditional kissaten and teahouses tucked into peaceful neighborhoods. In those spaces, I experienced something I hadn’t before: the intentional way tea was prepared, the quiet reverence in each motion, and the unspoken mindfulness shared between guest and host. There was stillness, respect, and a deep-rooted sense of tradition that resonated with me.
More than just the flavor of matcha, I was drawn to its cultural depth—how it carried centuries of Japanese ritual and philosophy in each bowl. I felt a strong desire to bring that same essence into my own community—not just as a beverage, but as an experience, a reminder to slow down, and a way to connect more intentionally.
In Uji and Wazuka, I met tea farmers who helped me understand what real matcha truly is. I’ve experienced tasting different cultivars and how each grade differs from one another. I have attended workshops where I learned how a tea leaf is transformed into fine ground matcha. They brought me to tea factories where I saw each process of the whole transformation. Those experiences, combined with the heartfelt moments I spent in Japanese cafés, became the foundation for what Kokorobi is today.
Kokorobi is deeply personal to me. It’s not just a business—it’s a way to share my love for Japanese culture and my passion for slowing down in a fast-moving world. Behind the trend of matcha is a story that deserves to be told—a story you can feel when you sip slowly and with intention.
